My Experience with COVID-19

Pretty much for the last year all we have heard about is COVID. Who is more susceptible to getting it, what should we do to prevent, etc. Even with all this knowledge, I was still unlucky enough to catch the virus over winter break.

 I am a healthy teen. I’m young, I workout often, and I have no pre-exsisting conditions. So, according to what we know, I shouldn’t be worried, but I was terrified. I would stress over if I was breathing normal. Check my temperature and oxygen levels seemingly every five minutes. Overall, just overthink all of my symptoms. Thankfully, my symptoms were not very bad, my symptoms were a sore throat and extremem tiredness. I spent a total of eight days just laying in my bed. 

It was beyond stressful once I found out I was positive for COVID. For the last ten months, all we have been hearing about on the internet is all the death that is involved with this virus. My mom immediately reached out to our close family friend who is a nurse in California and she sent us an enormous amount of information that can help when you have COVID. Since these has been an obvious increase in cases, I figured it would be good information to share in this article: 

  1. Sleep on your stomach at all times. If you can’t, sleep on your side. Don’t lay on your back no matter what because it smashes your lungs and allows fluid to set in. 
  2. Move your arms around frequently which helps open your lungs and walk around frequently as well. 
  3. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth which will help build up your lungs. 
  4. Eat at least 1-2 eggs a day, plus bananas, avocado, and asparagus. All these foods are good sources of Potassium.
  5. Drink Gatorade, Powerade, or Water with Electrolytes to prevent you from becoming dehydrated. 
  6. Don’t drink anything cold.
  7. One baby aspirin everyday can help prevent getting a blood clot which can occur from low activity.

Overall, there was lots of fear when getting told that I had COVID, but I was lucky enough to not have too bad of symptoms. The most important thing to take from this article is that no matter what age you are or your previous health conditions: take care of yourself, wear a mask, follow CDC guidlines, and if you test positive, you will get through this, it just might take a little bit of time.
