Summer air filled with saltwater, beach days thick with sand, and a love triangle bound for the history books. Whether you’re team “Jelly,” “Bonrad” or even “Cam Cameron,” chances are your Wednesday summer nights have been inundated by underwater camera shots and a low-playing intro song.
Sept. 17, 2025 — the day fans found out which couple is endgame. The Summer I Turned Pretty, based on the book trilogy by Jenny Han, first aired in 2022. The third and final season, released every Wednesday since July, came to an end this past week. No matter what “team” they are, fans can now breathe a sigh of relief.
The finale episode began when Conrad, played by Christopher Briney, arrives in Paris, causing Belly, played by Lola Tung, to question the life she has built for herself there. Though many expected the “Bonrad” finale, in line with the books, the last few episodes remained a surprise to everyone.
Benito, played by Fernado Cattori— a character with a minor role in the books — plays a more substantial role in the series, which many fans found an unwelcome distraction, especially considering Belly broke up with him rather suddenly.
However, as anticipated, the season finale also highlighted Conrad’s yearning for Belly, as his decision to visit her and write her such meaningful letters made him a better choice.
When Conrad and Belly finally get together, it’s truly cinematic. After fighting over Conrad’s intentions, Belly runs through the train station, realizing that Conrad is the one she truly wants and has wanted all along. The lovers reunite on the train. Every fan felt chills from the dramatics, but they also felt a jolt of warmth at Belly finally coming to terms with her love for Conrad.
“Staylor” has a similar fate and is by far the internet’s favorite couple. Taylor (played by Rain Spencer), Belly’s best friend, and Steven (played by Sean Kaufman), Belly’s brother, have a dramatic but happy ending, with Taylor agreeing to move to California so Steven can achieve his dream of running his up-and-coming business. This relationship plays out well throughout the series. The couple has challenges, but overall stays strong and positive for viewers.
Jeremiah’s (played by Gavin Casalegno) fate is interesting. Finding something he enjoys, cooking, shows some sort of character development, but his relationship with Denise, played by Isabelle Briggs, seems unlikely, as her character shows many signs of being exactly opposite to his personality type. He still deserves his happy ending, but Denise doesn’t feel like the right path for him.
As for the music in the finale, it proves to be fitting. With the variation of Taylor Swift songs and heartbreaking ballads to end the series, the scenes become much more meaningful, especially when many fans already resonate with these songs.
The long-awaited finale was a great way to end the series, but…there’s still more coming. On the day of the release, a movie was announced on Instagram, the plot of which is still a mystery, causing some to fear the way it could end. Until 2027, we can only imagine Belly walking down the aisle in a white dress beside a tuxedo-clad Conrad.
