Troubles in the Shorecrest community over Thanksgiving Break

Junior Jasper Hallock-Wishner’s Thanksgiving turkey came unexpectedly frozen. In an attempt to defrost it quickly, he and his family put it in their kitchen sink and filled it with water. Distracted, they left the turkey unattended and returned to a flooded kitchen.

US Science Teacher Bernadette Kozlowski’s family is Irish and grew up constantly peeling potatoes for their mother. Because of this, Kozlowski discovered her family has a natural gift for peeling potatoes. Every year, they have a potato peeling contest, with a sparkly silver potato peeler as the prize. Kozlowski’s record is three minutes for a five-pound bag of potatoes, close behind her sister, the reigning champion, at two-and-a-half minutes!

Every year at junior Caleb Williams’ Thanksgiving, his grandmother makes macaroni and cheese, making his aunt increasingly jealous. The two of them bickered over who would make it this year, resulting in an actual fight, as his aunt hit his grandmother with her cane, all over some mac and cheese.

Junior Liam Bernot’s American Pit Bull Terrier fully digested a linen Christmas ornament of a dog he’d taken from the tree. The Bernots noticed an ornament was missing, but they had no idea where it could be. A few days later, Bernot was walking his dog and discovered the ornament, fully intact. The family did not hang the ornament back up.

Senior Taylor Brown, who lost her house to the recent hurricanes, had to eat steak for Thanksgiving dinner on the sofa, with a single ornament to decorate her family’s Christmas tree.

US Spanish Teacher Pedro Legra Alonso, joining in on a game with his daughter, pretended to be a wolf and ran straight into an oak tree, much to his daughter’s amusement.

US History Teacher Daniel Asad grew up in the Southern Hemisphere, where Christmas is celebrated in the summer and accompanied by fireworks and time by the pool. Since moving to the United States, he has begun to confuse Christmas with the Fourth of July, craving Christmas foods five months too early.
