From the seat to the stage, musical theater is an important part of the Shorecrest experience. While many audience members get the experience of watching a production at its best, many don’t witness that hard work put in behind the scenes in the months leading up to production. The stress that is put on the actor during the lead up to a musical or play can be unimaginable. Juggling the hours of work within musical theater while also staying committed to rigorous academics, The Chronicle wanted to highlight all the unseen work, actors, stage managers, and others involved in the production in order to put on a show for opening night. This Spring, Shorecrest put on the musical, Oklahoma!. The Chronicle’s video team interviewed many actors along with the stage manager to get the unfiltered opinions and thoughts about the work that the audience rarely sees. Some of the actors included juniors Summer Farkas and Jill Marcus, and sophomores Alex Jank and Ella Mathews. The student actors and actresses gave their personalized views on participating in a production as large as Oklahoma!. In addition to these actors, the video team interviewed junior Ada Mollo, the stage manager for Oklahoma!. She gave a view on the thought behind the physical making of a set for this production. Contrasting these ideas, the team was offered insight into what the actor feels and how their schedule is impacted while working on Oklahoma! Along with getting their schedules, the team asked about what it is like to be in a musical at Shorecrest, as it is a small school producing large productions as big as Oklahoma!. This video includes the process of becoming their on-stage character, designing the set on stage and most importantly highlighting the commitment of students and faculty at Shorecrest to immerse the community in a story for three nights after months of hard work.
