Why is it that people 

You and me alike, 

Could want something so badly 

Though in reality 

Only live to avoid it. 

There is a man, in a grocery store 

He goes on every Sunday at four, 

Though it would be easier if he went on Saturdays. He wears a long brown cloak 

It looks rough, he must wear it often 

He wears these multicolored shoes, perhaps Sambas He doesn’t need anything, 

Just there to be there 

There is a woman, in a grocery store 

She goes on every Sunday at four 

It works best for her. 

She wears a long red cloak 

It looks soft 

She wears these red flats, perhaps Mary Janes

She’s replenishing her fruit 

The man, with the long brown cloak, 

He looks at her from afar, 

He notices something in her pocket 

It must be lipstick 

Glancing slowly at her lips 

He notices her hair, he thinks its beautiful, Naturally red 

With highlights, not too many though 

He loves her hair, he wants to go up to her, 

The woman, with the long red cloak, 

She looks at the strawberries 

Searching for the healthiest ones 

She sees the man, he’s looking at the flowers She notices his hand, 

He has a freckle in the middle, 

He reaches for one of the flowers 

Yellow roses, beautiful

He holds it, as if thinking 

She notices his shoes, an all brown outfit, 

Though bright yellow and blue shoes, 

It makes her smile 

He looks up at her, quickly, he looks down 

The man places the flower back, he leaves with nothing to buy, And nowhere to go 

The woman thinks of the man, as she looks at the flowers,

She leaves as well 

This cycle repeats. 

Their thoughts, paralleled, 

though too afraid to speak, 

Their wants and interest the same, 

though never to be known 

Looking from a gaze, too afraid to see 

Like a bridge to be crossed, 

Though flooded with water 

Lost in the mist 

Unable to walk over. 

They’ll never be
